Donncha has a B.Sc. in Industrial chemistry and received his Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry from the University of Limerick (UL). He has also lectured chemical engineering and process control at UL. Over the course of his research career Donncha has concentrated on commercial research, including industrial projects in Ireland and Australia involving companies like Cook Inc., Aughinish Alumina and CSIRO (the Australian Commonwealth Science and Research Organisation), a government research body established to provide research expertise to Industry. In 2005 Donncha won an Australian government funded scholarship, Endeavour award, to study under Prof. Julian Gale in Curtin University, Perth, Western Australia on various chemical and engineering aspects of the Bayer process for Alumina production. Other research interests include biomaterials chemistry and surface coating technologies for the medical device industry. Donncha is a named inventor on five patents and has founded two high technology start-up companies. In 2008 HKPB Scientific Ltd. one of those companies, was judged one of the best start-up prospects in Ireland winning the Munster final of Intertrade Irelands Seedcorn competition.
Donncha is currently working in the DIBANET project on the design and construction of different reactor configurations for the acid hydrolysis of biomass to Levulinic acid at high temperature.

Donncha Haverty is involved in the following projects:
Carbolea is co-ordinating a large FP7 project that involves close collaboration between 13 partners, 7 from Latin America and 6 from Europe. The focus of this project is on the sustainable production of diesel miscible biofuels from the residues and wastes of both regions.

We are pleased to announce that today Donncha Harverty started work at Carbolea. He is employed in our FP7 porject DIBANET. He will be responsible for the design, construction and operation of a lab-scale hydrolysis system that will take, as feedstocks, numerous residues and wastes from Europe and Latin America. The target will be high yields of valuable platform chemicals from which a suite of biofuels and industrial chemicals can be synthesised. Donncha has extensive experience in reactor design and cosntruction and will be a valuable member in the team.
