ReUseWaste

Introduction

ReUseWaste is an Initial Training Network project funded under the Marie Curie action of the EU-FP7-PEOPLE-2011 program.

The ReUseWaste network brings together major EU research groups from leading universities and research institutes, key agri-environmental technology companies and public authorities, from the countries and regions of most intensive livestock production in Europe.

The ReUseWaste network will

provide new ideas and systems that lead to a major rethink in the current, established animal waste management systems

train fourteen researchers in developing new technologies for improved and sustainable utilisation of valuable organic matter and plant nutrient resources in animal waste

provide companies with improved and new technologies to produce both bioenergy and green bio-fertilisers, leading to improved soil, water and air quality

Project objective

The overall objective of ReUseWaste is to educate young scientists to rethink current, established manure management systems and apply new technology for improved and sustainable utilisation of the valuable organic matter and nutrient resources in manure.

Expected outcome

The overall outcome will be a new European platform (incl. trained scientists and required technology) from which innovative ideas for environmental technologies can develop to proof-of-concept level with industry. This will include novel technologies for characterization and sustainable utilisation of the manure, which will enable production of bioenergy, green bio-fertilisers and improved soil, air and water quality.

Partners

The ReUseWaste network brings together 8 major EU research groups from leading univerŽsities and research institutes and 8 key agri-environmental technology companies, combining biological, agronomic and engineering disciplines from the countries and regions with the most intensive livestock production in Europe. Furthermore, two public regulatory authorities for test and verification of environmental technology as well as environmental protection are associated partners.

Main partners

The ReUseWaste network consists of nine main partners from Denmark, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Italy and Ireland. University of Copenhagen, Denmark is the project coordinator.

Associated Partners

The ReUseWaste network has eleven associated partners, representing both universities, research institutes, industry and regulatory authorities from Spain, The Netherlands, Italy, Denmark, Ireland and United Kingdom.
